Pond size and pond location
The
decision for the size and shape of a pond should be determined by your own
preference, the size of the garden, and the intended location. In any case,
the size of the pond plays an important role in its biological balance.
The larger the pond is, the better the visual effect and health conditions
of plants and animals. If you intend to keep fish, your pond will need a
minimum depth of 1.5 to 3 feet (depending on the climate and the type of
the fish) to provide an ideal living environment, especially in the winter.
The table below is designed to give you rough guidelines for the calculating
pond size and water volume.

As a rule, for ponds with less than 40 square feet,
you would choose a preformed pond with a minimum depth of 1.5´. Pond liner, however, has the advantage
of infinite design possibilities. OASE offers, for example, OASE alpha
liner for this purpose.

of the thumb: |
Use
more than 100 gallons of water per 11 square feet of water surface
area ( min. 1.5´ deep). |
A quick checklist
| |
Choose
an open and sunny location with an average exposure to sunlight of
3-5 hours. |
| |
Do
not construct your pond underneath trees. |
| |
Choose
a quiet place for a tranquil wildlife haven. |
| |
Ensure the availability
of a water and power supply. |
| |
Check the location
for the pond, i.e., back of the garden or close to the house (personal
taste) |
| |
Are you planning
to keep fish? |
| |
Decide whether
you want to use pond liner or a preformed pond. |
